Crate Rail System: Space-Efficient and Accessible Crate-Based Storage for Any Environment
A compact, modular, and aesthetic storage solution for milk crates, designed to optimize space and improve accessibility in various environments. Background Milk crates are a standardized, versatile storage option commonly used for goods transportation and organization. Current storage methods, such as stacking or standalone shelving, hinder accessibility, lack aesthetic appeal, and occupy significant floor space, particularly in environments like classrooms, workshops, and garages. Existing solutions do not provide the flexibility needed for dynamic organization systems. This creates an unmet need for an accessible and space-efficient solution to store and organize milk crates. Technology Overview OSU faculty have developed a Crate Rail System, a novel storage solution designed for milk crates that offers a streamlined, modular, and space-efficient organization system. The innovation features a wall-mounted or free-standing inline rail system with patent-pending geometry that allows individual milk crates to be securely mounted or dismounted without requiring moving parts. This system repurposes milk crates as portable, cubby-like storage bins, providing easy access to contents and optimizing storage space. Compared to traditional storage methods, such as stacking crates or using standalone shelving, the Crate Rail System minimizes floor space usage, enhances accessibility, and features a clean, professional aesthetic suitable for a variety of workspaces.
